Mystic Grave [Date of interview: April 10, 2008]
Mystic Grave, the band hailling from Finland, the current line up consisted of Gibletface, A.P. Pagan and Ron Tomb. Three pieces but damn tightness! Let's get to know this band more with Gibletface and A.P.Pagan!
How's the going, man? How's your life in Finland?
Gibletface: Greetings. Things are going great! Really nice spring weather here in finland. The sun is shining and the birds are singing... Great atmosphere for greating sickest and doomiest tunes :)

A.P Pagan: Actually it's snowing here at the moment...

You songs that talks about Occult, Sick and Horror stuff, how's the idea, man? Book? Film?
Gibletface: We really want to concentrate on the mental side of these horrible things that are around. It's pretty boring to read stuff about mutilation and gore, but when you start to think about all the things that led to those acts then it becomes much more interesting and has depth. This is the vibe we are trying to put into Mystic Grave. Fucked up mental shit! Maybe some books and films had an effect on our stuff but I can't really name any.

Give me the top five favourite books and the top five favourite films.
Gibletface: These days I've been reading more. I got rid of my television so now I got the time and the energy. I read "All quiet on the western front" just recently and it was great! Really realistic, human and makes you think. Henry Rollins "Black Coffee Blues" was also fantastic with it's black humour and honesty. AC/DC Maximum Rock'n Roll was definitely inspiring! Those books I can mention now. Favourite films? American Beauty, Cube, The Fly... what else. All kinds of crazy comedies. I like to laugh!

A.P Pagan: I watch a lot of movies, so it's hard to name just five. Here's some from the horror genre: The Wicker Man, Rosemary's Baby, George Romero's ...of the dead trilogy. Dario Argento's movies. I can't decide on top 5 books either, I read mostly fiction. Horror, sci-fi etc.

Please describe the musick of Mystic Grave.
Gibletface: "Old school death metal combined with the depth of doom and the filth and sickness of sludge"

Actually, I like your mixed and production of your EP album-play only three pieces but tightness sounds! What's your technique on the recording this album?
Gibletface: Technique was to keep an open mind and let the energy and ideas FLOW freely. No rules or borders anywhere. We tried all kinds of things like recorded the sound of water moving in the sink and we stuffed the microphone in the hole on the wall to get a weird echo on that moaning in the middle of Swamp Terror Pt.1. Crazy shit!

A.P Pagan: Unlike most bands nowdays, we didn't use a (metronome) click track in the studio. This allows the songs breathe and flow more freely. The album sounds like it's played by real people. We also didn't clean it up too much in mixing, so it sounds pretty natural, in a filthty, twisted way. The majority of new metal releases are engineered to sound too polished and clear for my ears.

What's band that you got the influence from in kind of doom/death metal ?
Gibletface: Necrophagia, Eyehategod, Obituary, Six Feet Under, Autopsy... And a shitload of other fantastic bands!

How many copies that you released this EP album? and How's the response from the audiences around the world?
Gibletface: We made 500 copies. The response has been pretty good actually. You can check the reviews on our website. We are at the beginning of our mystic journey and I bet the real response and effect is yet to come.

How's the progress of your first full-length album? When we will hear the good news?
Gibletface: Actually our next release is going to be a EP as well. So no full lenght record just yet. We already got the music ready. There's still some work to do with the lyrics and arrangements. We are also figuring out some sound related stuff. We want our next EP to BREAK SOME BALLS! We will start recording maybe next fall. We will not fuck things up by rushing into anything. We will make a demo of one new song which is called "Pictures Of The Dead" and we will put it out on our myspace and homepage. It will be out in near future so stay tuned!

A.P Pagan: Yeah, and the next EP will most likely be a self-financed one as well, so the number of copies will be a reasonably small one too. We are looking for distributors for our records worldwide.
